Work in the Entertainment Industry
DeVon got his start in Hollywood as an 18-year-old intern for Will Smith. Today, he is the President & CEO of Franklin Entertainment, a multi-media company that produces inspirational and commercial content. The company currently has a first-look film deal with 20th Century Fox.
As the former Senior Vice President of Columbia Pictures, DeVon was one of the youngest and highest-ranking African-American studio executives in entertainment history. During his near 10-year tenure at Columbia, he championed some of Hollywood’s biggest box-office hits, including The Pursuit of Happyness, The Karate Kid, Jumping the Broom, and Heaven Is For Real.
In addition, DeVon produced the hit film, Miracles From Heaven, starring Jennifer Garner and Queen Latifah. After making the movie for a modest $15 million, it grossed over $73 million at the world-wide box office, making it one of the top-grossing, faith-based films of all-time.
DeVon is the executive-producer of the upcoming film, The Star, for Sony Pictures Animation, slated to release on November 17, 2017. It is the first faith-based animated film to be released by a major Hollywood studio since The Prince of Egypt in 1998.
In addition, Franklin has many high-profile film projects in development including, The Impossible with 20th Century Fox, The Boy Who Knew Too Much with 20th Century Fox, the reboot of He-Man and the Masters Of The Universe franchise with Columbia Pictures, along with the remake of the classic film, Cooley High, with Common at MGM. In television, Franklin is producing Chi-Arts, a music-driven drama at ABC and a reboot of Foxy Brown at HULU starring Meagan Good.
DeVon is a newly elected member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) where he chairs the Executive Branch subcommittee on Diversity.
He earned a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with an emphasis in Entrepreneurship along with a minor in Cinema-Television from the University of Southern California.

DeVon was raised in Oakland, CA. His mother, grandmother, and seven aunts formed what he called a “coalition of strong women” that guided DeVon and his two brothers after his father tragically passed away at the age of 36 from a heart attack.
As a teenager, DeVon enjoyed studying movies and television shows to figure out how stories and scenes were put together to move and inspire people. He was particularly influenced by The Cosby Show and The Color Purple. During this time, he began helping out at his uncle’s church and preached his first sermon at the age of 15.
